Here is a recent application in which
our experiment and the assets of our flowmeters
made the difference.
100 points of flow measurements
on the largest hidroelectric powerstation in the world: Itaïpu
We are proud of having won, via our
subsidiary company USE, the flow measurements
market of the cooling circuits of the 20
turbines of the largest hydroelectric power
station in the world.
Let us recall that this power station is
fed by the dam named Itaïpu, one of the seven wonders
of the world. Located on the Paraná river,
cross-border between Brazil and Paraguay, its capacity of 14.000 MW exceeds still
today that of the Three Gorges dam in China. It ensures nearly 89% of the power
consumption of Paraguay and 25% of the total of the Brazilian market demand.
When the 14 valves are opened, nearly 62.200 m³/s
flow in rumble. The 20 turbines able to manage 700 m³/s
of water each, are surrounded by a cooling circuit under
high supervision.
More than 100 ultrasonic flowmeters of our MINISONIC range
(fixed version and a portable device) are installed to take care of the flow
regulation. The
pipes diameters ranging from 1”½ to
18“ are equipped with our clamp-on probes which are easy to install, without
drilling the pipes and pressure loss. The accuracy of these flowmeters, proven
by an independent calibration laboratory lies between 0.5%
and 1%.Some meters,
chosen as sample and COFRAC certified, show a 0.1% repeatability.
