In the transportation of oil products by pipelines, the separation of different quality products is
done by introducing a sphere between the two products. For the regular cleaning of the transportation lines, there are also pigs for cleaning or instrumented pigs.
The detection of their passage in upstream and downstream of pumping sites permit to by-pass them.
The detection is made by a cutt off in the acoustic beam emitted by an external probe (for the liquids) or intrusive (for gas).
